Steampunk Signs ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have. It is written in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
1. Who is responsible for your information
Steampunk Signs is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at [email protected] or 072 016 6295.
2. What we collect
We only collect what we need to quote on and carry out signage work.
Information you give us. When you complete the quote form on our contact page, we collect your name, email address, phone number, the suburb or area you are in, the service you are enquiring about, and whatever you write in the message field. If you phone, email or WhatsApp us instead, we hold whatever you choose to tell us in that conversation.
Information collected automatically. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited. These are used to keep the site running and secure. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not collect special personal information as defined in POPIA (such as health, religious or biometric information).
3. Why we use it
- To respond to your enquiry and prepare a quote
- To carry out and manage signage work you ask us to do
- To keep a record of enquiries so we can follow up properly
- To keep the website secure and prevent spam and abuse
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations
We process this information because it is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, to perform that contract, to comply with the law, or for our legitimate business interests. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing to people who have not asked for it.
4. Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers ("operators" under POPIA) to run this website. They may process your information on our behalf, and only on our instructions:
- Cloudflare - website and database hosting, image storage, and the anti-spam check on our contact form
- Web3Forms - delivers the email notification that tells us a new enquiry has come in
- 1-grid - our email hosting provider
Some of these providers store information on servers outside South Africa. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards permitted by section 72 of POPIA, including the provider being subject to laws or binding agreements that give your information a comparable level of protection.
We may also disclose your information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
5. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry records for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows from it. Where we have done work for you, we keep the records for as long as our tax and accounting obligations require, which is generally five years. After that we delete them or remove anything that identifies you. You can ask us to delete your information sooner - see section 8.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
This website does not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies or tracking pixels. The only third-party component that may set a cookie is the Cloudflare Turnstile anti-spam check on our contact form, which is there to confirm you are a person and not a bot. It is necessary for the form to work.
7. How we protect it
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. The site is served over an encrypted connection, and access to enquiry records is limited to people in the business who need it. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
8. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct or update information that is wrong or incomplete
- Ask us to delete information we no longer have grounds to keep
- Object to us processing your information in certain circumstances
- Complain to the Information Regulator
To exercise any of these, email us at [email protected]. We may need to confirm who you are before we act on the request. We will respond as soon as reasonably possible. Requests for access to records are dealt with under the Promotion of Access to Information Act, and a fee may apply as prescribed.
9. Complaints to the Information Regulator
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa:
